Venus

1\ Introduction

a\ Presentation

Venus is a grayscale space shooter game for Ti68k (Ti89, Ti92+, v200). You have to control your ship and use one of the 40 available weapons (divided into 10 classes) to destroy all your enemies. By blasting them, you'll earn the necessary funds to buy new equipement.

This game is released under the GPL licence, see GPL.txt for more informations.

b\ Install and run

Send the two game files to your calculator (the .89z and .89y if you have a Ti89, .9xz and .9xy for a Ti92+, .v2z and .v2y for a v200). You don't need any kernel, patch or anything else to launch the game, just type "venus()" in the home screen and press enter to play.

If you do so, the game will show a message saying that no level were found. You must have at least one level file (usually .89y) on your calculator to play. You can create you own levels with Venus Level Editor (see "Editor" section).

2\ How to play

a\ Menu

The first screen you'll have is the menu, with 5 choices :

New game : to start a new game on the selected level
Load game : to resume a previously saved game (you can only have one save per level)
Select level : to select another level; by default, the first one found in current folder will be used
Credits : game version and other useless informations ^^
Exit : well... you'll found out

When you select a level (when you launch the game or when "Select level" option is used), its description will appear at the bottom of the screen.

b\ Shop

If you start or load a game, the shop will be displayed. It's here that you can buy weapons, addons, and life. Use the arrows to select an item, a short description will be available in the status line. Use button 1 (2nd, F1, or Hand depending of your calculator) to buy the item, if you can afford it (your credits are shown at the top of the screen).

When you have finished with the shop, press the "Enter" key. You can also save your game by pressing button 2 (Shift, F5, or F1 depending of your calculator). Keep in mind that when you start a new game, you have to buy at least a weapon.

c\ Game

After exiting the shop, you'll be in the game itself. Use arrows to control your ship, button 1 to fire, button 2 to change weapon, and button 3 (Control, F2 or Q depending of your calculator) to display the status bars.

If you are lucky, bonus will fall from the enemies you'll destroy. These can add 10$, 20$ or 50$ to your credit total. When you'll have destroyed enough ships, the shop will be displayed again, so you can repair yourself, and buy new equipement.

3\ Items

a\ Weapons

40 weapons are available in Venus, divided into 10 categories. Buy a weapon you already own to upgrade it and increase its power. Here is the weapon list :

Pulsar : The base weapon, which fires at medium speed. By upgrading it, you'll be able to shoot into 2, 3 then 4 directions.
Plasma Wave : A bit more powerfull than Pulsar, but slower too. These waves can goes astray and hit enemies that aren't in front of you, allowing you to shoot from a safer place.
Flame Thrower : A short-range flame thrower, quite difficult to use. But it has two advantages : its cost, and its power when upgraded.
Fire Storm : The fastest weapon of the game. Even without being upgraded, it fires two time faster than the Pulsar.
Hydra Cannon : A rotating cannon, that shoot alternatively in many directions. Upgrading it will increase its firing speed, and the number of bullets shot.
Concusive Ray : One of the most powerfull weapons, a single shot of this one can destroy many ships. But its firing speed is quite slow...
Laser Blade : Another difficult-to-use weapon, blades will be launched at the rear of your ship, you'll need practice to know exactly were they are going.
Homing mine : This guided weapon is usefull to shot down enemies without even aiming at them. Powerfull, but slow.
Side Tracker : Guided weapon too, but very different in the functioning. Bullets are shot from the rear of your ship, like the Laser Blades.
Instant Laser : Only one of these lasers is needed to destroy any enemy. But you'd better have good dodging skills while waiting for its reload...

b\ Addons

These are not weapons, nevertheless they can be usefull to preserve your life :

Deflector : Provides you a good defense against enemy bullets, by generating a force field which will randomly repel them. Upgrading the Deflector increase the probability it has to activate when a bullet approach.
Magnetic : Attracts the bonus that sometime falls from enemies. The more upgraded it is, the easier you'll grab the bonuses.
Teleport : Allow your ship to teleport, by double-pressing on the left or right button. Usefull to dodge bullets, the teleport distance will be bigger if you upgrade this addon.
